The making of The Steradian Trail and The Infinity Cycle
Hi. Thanks for stopping by.
The idea behind The Steradian Trail got into my head back when I was in grad school in the late 90s. I didn't do much about it for a long time, but it just kept bouncing around, bugging me, never really going away. Though the plotline and characters started to assume some semblance of shape in my head, it was in early 2003 when I really rolled up my sleeves and started writing it up, hardly realizing what I was getting myself into.
It started out as a one-off thing, an itch I had to scratch, but grew into a series, The Infinity Cycle, over the next ten years. What I wanted to do was explore the strange connections between science, technology, religion, culture and intelligent crime in the Indian context. There are many stories dying to be told there and I wanted to tell some of them in a fast-paced, mystery-thriller format with a touch of humour and tongue-in-cheekiness that I usually love in the books I read.
I worked on three novels in the ten-year period, going through draft after draft of rewrites, chiselling each story into shape, carving the overall arc of the series, bringing each character to life. It has been a long battle, demanding humongous amount of effort and energy, but I'm very happy with the way things shaped up and that's what seems to matter in the end. Book #0 is out now, and #1 and #2 two should follow in the next couple of years. Do give it a try and let me know what you think.
